Why don't you put your hand up for 2019 Autumn Flocking Gerry and organise a Flocking somewhere between you and Brisvegas?

A couple of yrs ago ( I think it was after Bne) I suggested Longreach.but it was "Downed " on the Forum as a suggestion. It has heaps to do and see, eg.Qantas Museum,Stockmans Hall of Fame, Thomson River Cruises, and being out the back it has lots of Sunshine.(No Fn Rain) + there is absolutely lots of things on the way there depending on which way you came.eg. Winton had the Waltzing Matilda Centre and the Australian Dinosaurs Museum and once you get "out the back" you can really cover some distances in a day. Longreach is a Major Tourist Hub and there is shit loads of accommodation,

The Distances according to Google
Melb to Longreach 1949
Sydney to Longreach 1725
Bne to Longreach 1177
Central Qld to Longreach 780.

The problem is the greater population of Thunderbirds is in the South east and Southern Half of oz and the distances outlined above don't lend them self to riding reasonably quickly for really what is a day and a bit of socializing.( or putting up with Ray for a couple of nights )

It would have to be organised as an extended event where it becomes a destination. coz in reality it is a 3 day ride each way.

Same Problem we up north have.

Hey Gerry,

I'm not being a smart arse here, but 'plan it'!
With enough notice people will come.
You mightn't see the numbers that come normally, but if you pull a plan together, I'm sure there'll be interest.

I'll say now, that in late March, early April 2019, I would go!

People thought that Lightning Ridge was too far and yet it was one of the memorable Flockings.

Go for it mate!

Also, for information, it's 2113 kms from Narracorte (SA) to Longreach and it's 1938 kms from Narracorte to Brisbane! (Only 200 kms further) Hint, hint!

Cheers

Longreach !!! Yeah, go for it Gerry
Getting there is usually the best part of the trip.
And that's why the Queenslanders don't like QLD Flockings

Looks like a done deal Gerry, you better start planning it mate

P.S. are there any radar traps on those outback roads?

P.S.S. its only 2007 km from Geelong, so Frank will win the farthest flocker, again...

Most of the flockings have been three nights on the road for me, that's how I prefer it, day runs I can do any time and they don't feel the same. Longreach is great, I never got to see the Stockmans hall of Fame last time I was there as I ended up in the Longreach hospital next to the bloody town drunk

Gerry,

It would be a great run and we are always looking for new places to go so I think you should start to plan. If you need a hand I can help you.

Hi Flockers!!! As stated on the FB page, by my calculations we are less than 7 weeks away from this flocking.

I have checked with the accommodation folks at the White Albatross and there is still accommodation left. To get your 20% discount you must tell them you are with the Thunderbirds group when booking. Getting excited!!

(Not that my ride to the flocking is going to be much of a thrill....)

Less than 4 weeks to go!!!!!

Oh yeah!

When we agreed on the flocking at Nambucca I said I would check with the V Wall tavern regarding the possibility of a set menu for the Saturday night. I will do that this week and post the proposal. After my initial discussions with the chef at the tavern I go the impression they would be happy to have three choices per course and still cater for those with special dietary needs.
Watch this space for the proposed menu and prices.

Cheers all.

G'day Flockers

Just to let everyone know the Chevrons are ready.
No orders are required as plenty will be available at Nambucca for those that collect them.

Safe travels

Hi everyone, 2018 Aussie Autumn Flocking tee shirts are available as posted in the fb 2018 Aussie Autumn Flocking page.

12th March is the dead line as the tees have to be printed and posted to you. Sorry for the short notice on this one, but the original supplier has printing issues and we are lucky to have the print of shirts go ahead.

Cost is $ 28.00 printed both sides.

Hi all. Getting close to the time some will be leaving home.
Haven't heard about the set menu at the pub yet but will chase it up tomorrow. Also, given the White Albatross is not near the cafes in town I will provide some brekky stuff for the Saturday breakfast....bacon, eggs, bread, butter, tea, coffee, sauces, sugar and milk....and will fire up the stove/barby to cook same from about 8ish. If it is OK with flockers I will have a collection tin to offset cost. Whatever you think is fair given what you consume but I would not want anything more than a couple of bucks for a bacon and egg sanger. I say again...cost offset donations...not a money making exercise. Looking forward to catching up with the flockers.
If you are hitting the road, ride safely.
At this stage, the weather forecast is that there may be some light rain on the weekend.
We shall see......Cheers, KB

You Flockers MIGHT get a very wet arse if the Low out there developed and moves down the coast like it is predicted.

Hi flockers!! Great news, the weather forecast for the flocking is good.

Forecast is for fine weather with a possible shower late on Saturday (5% chance of rain). Let's hope that is how it pans out.

....mind you, those coming from Queensland may have to get the wet weather gear out of the panniers due to a TC tracking towards the Sunshine State....

Hi again..fellow flockers
FOOD
Got the set menu option from the V Wall tavern restaurant (The Bluewater Brasserie) for the Saturday night dinner. Basically, two entree options (Peking duck spring rolls soy and sweet chili sauce dip or panko crumbed calamari with tartare and lemon) and two main options (crumbed fish and chips with salad or peppered slow braised beef with mushroom sauce and steamed chat potato with sour cream) all accompanied by garlic cheese bread served on arrival. The saving over ala carte for this menu is IVO $14.
Having said that, the Tavern has a fairly extensive menu including blackboard specials. Notably, this is a tourist destination so it is not cheap pub food (mains in mid $20 and $30 range) but quality is generally good and it is still the best option for Saturday night, and we have the entire dining room reserved for dinner at 7pm Saturday.
There are alternatives close by. There is also a small caf?? at the end of the tavern that does the usual take aways (fish and chips, burgers etc) and has some seating outside. Cheaper than the bistro and quality is OK. Also a five minute walk down the riverside walk are two more eateries; the Wharf caf?? (only open for breakfast and lunch) and Matildas; a more upmarket restaurant with an extensive menu. Pricey but well regarded.
In town there are plenty of other alternatives, the RSL, Bowls club, Thai, Indian, Chinese and general takeaway joints with grilled chicken, pizza and the usual burgers/cooked stuff. Not really within easy walking distance and up a steep hill.
There are also cooking facilities in cabins, a large modern shared kitchen and undercover BBQ facilities at the White Albatross.
Given the choices and the variously priced options available I suggest we abandon the set menu option for the Saturday night.
Having said that, if anyone is super keen on the set menu please message or text me with your choices and I will let the Tavern know. It doesn't matter if only a portion of our people go for the set menu on the Saturday night.
Cheers all..

My mate & I (with wives) are leaving Newcastle on Friday, anyone that wishes to join us is welcome. We plan to be at Maccas at Heatherbrae and leave at 9am. If the weather is fine we are going via Gloucester, Walcha and Wauchope with at stop for lunch at the Beechwood Cafe. If it is wet then straight up the highway with a small detour to Beechwood (to lunch with family run cafe). Anyone that wants my phone number just private message me. Regards Bruce

Looks like I need to get back onto this forum more often!! Turns out I was in the same neighbourhood this weekend (Bellingen) on a ride with my brother in law and a pack of Harley's (annual event). I saw/chatted with a couple of you by the falls on the way up to Dorrigo on Saturday, and saw the pack at Dorrigo on my way back through in the afternoon.

Weather was awesome, roads were pretty clear and free of constabulary.

Anyhow, sorry I missed catching up with the Flock, but great to see good numbers still attending these events. I'll try to keep up with future event dates and places so I don't miss out!!

Cheers,
Ian
